February 23, 2026. Portugal’s Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) has introduced a new digital renewal platform for holders of the country’s Golden Visa programme (Autorização de Residência para Atividade de Investimento, or ARI).
The Portal das Renovações will become the primary channel for submitting Golden Visa renewal applications, allowing investors and eligible family members to complete the renewal process electronically, including document submission and payment of applicable fees.
The move represents a further step in the digitalisation of Portugal’s immigration administration, reducing the need for in-person procedures and improving accessibility for international investors.
A More Efficient Renewal Process
Under the new system, renewal applications will be managed digitally from submission through review. Physical appointments will generally only be required where updated biometric information is needed.
Where biometric data must be renewed, AIMA will arrange appointments directly and notify applicants of the relevant date, time, and location. Following biometric collection, the remaining steps will continue through the online platform.
Existing appointments for biometric collection that were previously scheduled remain valid and must be attended.
Supporting a More Streamlined Investor Experience
The introduction of the renewal portal forms part of Portugal’s broader efforts to modernise immigration services and improve administrative efficiency following significant growth in demand for residence programmes.
While initial implementation of the platform may involve technical adjustments, the transition toward a fully digital process is expected to simplify future renewals and provide greater clarity for investors and their families.
